Franklin Arts Center Sale

The Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd is hosting an Open House and Art Sale this Saturday from 10:00 - 3:00. Along with the many other locations for arts and crafts sales, you can find all your holiday gift needs locally and from local artists. Also, that day, Joy and I, along with other musicians, will be providing entertainment. The Side Dish from Prairie Bay will be in our Parking Lot for lunch. Joy already has many houses on display at the Pottery studio. Here are a few that will be there.

Joy added bling to some of her houses.
I think it works especially well on the house of cards.

They're even cuter in person.

Happy Holidays!

Stop on over and say Hi. We'll also have some goodies to share!

This Sunday, we'll be open for Art Sunday, at 1:00. Come over and make your own holiday gifts, houses, pinch pots, puppets, and painting or drawing on mini canvases. Open to all ages. Young children need to be accompanied by an adult. Let us know what you'd like to see offered at the Primo Art Spa. We're working on dates for puppet theatre for kids this spring, and a play writing class for teens and adults, as well as more classes and jazzy jars/gift jars.

Happy Halloween!

We're getting excited for the spooky holiday. On Sunday, Oct. 26, a few folks stopped by to work on their pottery, decorate cookies, and help us bag up some trick-or-treats!

The process is half the fun!

Cut out shapes for the season, plus a butterfly as our Art Spa logo.

Naked cookies, waiting for the frosting and the frosters!

What are you making?

yum

The butterflies were the most fun to frost.

Meanwhile, the potters were painting

The Red Roof Inn for a Fairy?

Attention to detail

Then, we filled treats bags for the big day!

Our treats bags include: candy, a note about the Art Spa, and a temporary tattoo with our logo.

Stop by for a Halloween Treat!
We aren't too scary, just a coupla sisters with a cackle and a broom!

We'll be open most Saturdays for Art Saturday, starting at 10:00 am. You can work on pottery, painting, puppets, and more. $10/hour per person. Let us know what you'd like to create.
You can also bring your own supplies and use our space as inspiration. We welcome adults and kids. Young children need to be accompanied by an adult. Or, book your own time at the Primo Art Spa! Check our pages (above) for an Art Spa Package for you and some friends.

Next Class for Musicians:
Join us for a Master Class for advanced student musicians and adults. You are invited to play any instrument or sing for the group. We will offer positive feedback to enhance your performance, ways to add color and emotion to your songs. Cost $10, includes refreshments. Please let us know if you'll need an accompanist.

Saturday, September 7, 2013, The Primo Art Spa had our first Art Saturday. It was a PPP Day. Puppets, Pottery, Pastries (muffins). Millie and Willie were so excited! So, were we. Here are a few favorite photos of the fabulous event!

Puppet ideas were flowing; characters were emerging!

Hand building, animals, hearts and houses.

Careful attention to detail

Mary made these twin girls, and our guest helped model them.
They are Millie and Willie Cottonpoly's neighbors.
Twin girls, Lillie and Billie, with very different interests.

Concentration and imagination

The hand building is complete. Now, to wait for the firing and glazing.
Can't wait to see how they turn out!

Hearts and houses.

Millie and Willie designed some new costumes during the party.
I think they're gearing up for a Halloween Party.

What can we make out of this fabulous fabric?

Puppets, Pottery and Pastries at Primo Art Spa

Saturday, September 7, 2013, from 10:00 am to 12 noon, we invite you to make and play with puppets or pottery and enjoy some pastries (probably muffins) at the Primo Art Spa. Joy and Mary are cooking up some fun for kids and adults of any age. It might be an opportunity to bring your kids for puppets and play with clay, or vice versa. This is our first Art Saturday, so we're keeping it open to any age. As our numbers increase, we might divide into age groups, or not. Sometimes, it's fun to mix and mingle.

Millie and Willie "share" a muffin.

Millie:  Willie, I see that there is a bite or two missing from this muffin.

Willie:  Yes, Millie. I couldn't resist. It's one of Joy's specialties, with chocolate, a hint of coffee flavor, and that crumble top.

Millie:  I thought we were going to share it.

Willie:  I saved you a bite.

Millie:  (breaks off a small crumble and Willie devours the rest) Willie!

Willie:  Saturday, come over to the Art Spa on Saturday. She'll have a whole batch of muffins.

Millie:  What else is happening at the Art Spa on Saturday?

Willie:  Mary is going to help kids and grown-ups make more sock puppets so we can put on a play.

Millie: Oh, I'm so excited!

Willie:  Me, too. Plus, Joy will help people make fairy houses or other awesome stuff out of clay.

Millie:  Oh, that's wonderful.

Willie:  Yes, I know. And, they'll have fresh muffins.

Millie:  I'll be hiding mine.

Email us primoartspa@gmail.com to let us know you're coming! Bring friends, make friends, and have a creative morning!

Any fairy would be happy to live here.

Our Open House is Saturday, October 12, 2013, Noon to 6:00 pm. We'll have fun with puppets, pottery, journals and music.

Keep checking here or like us on facebook to learn about more art and music events at Primo Art Spa!

Our two hours classes are $20 each.

Primo Art Spa Open House, October 12, 2013

Sisters Mary Aalgaard and Joy Ciaffoni have opened the Primo Art Spa in the Brainerd area. We offer a place where you can explore your art.

Joy offers private lessons for voice, piano, and art, specializing in pottery, hand building fairy houses.

Mary offers private piano lessons, tutoring for writing and blogging, and classes on play writing and acting.

Millie and Willie invite you to the Primo Art Spa!

On Saturday, October 12, 2013, we are having an Open House at the Primo Art Spa in Brainerd, MN. It's open to any age. Each class is $20.00. We provide all supplies as well as instruction. Young children need to be accompanied by an adult.

12:00 pm: Sock Puppet Party. We'll be making our own sock puppets (Millie and Willie needs friends), and creating characters. We can also start to think about making a puppet show.

2:00 pm: Pottery, Build you own Fairy House, or other hand building project. Joy will be there to assist you. You'll need to plan to come back another day to glaze your house. The first step in pottery is to build your form. It's fired, and then you can paint, or glaze, it, and it's fired again. (Check out our recent posts to see the process in action.)

4:00 Journal Making and Writing

We'll begin each class with some music, and a skit by Millie and Willie at the start of the Sock Puppet Party. We will also offer refreshments.

Email us to reserve a spot for any, or all, of these classes primoartspa@gmail.com.

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, we will be conducting a Music Workshop called "The Power of Intention." Email us to get signed up for this workshop.

If you are looking for a voice, piano, or art teacher, let us know!

Thanks.

Premier Event for Primo Art Spa!

For our premier event for Primo Art Spa, we provided live music at Glaze 2 Amaze in down town Brainerd, MN. People came to paint a plate, or other ceramic, while Joy sang and Mary accompanied her. Some of the songs we did were:
Heart and Soul
Fine, Fine Line
Then, He Kissed Me
What'll I Do?
Sweet Violets
You, and the Night, and the Music
and a few more as people were getting into their painting.

Sisters, Mary Aalgaard and Joy Ciaffoni, provide music at Glaze 2 Amaze.

Here's what one artist had to say:

Thanks for the invite! I was very into what I was doing and was equally drawn into the music as I was creating art. The music kinda disappeared into the whole process.. like it was a part of the creative process. If there was no music it would not have been the same. Kinda sounded like as people got more present in their own creativity, the verbal or physical response to the music waned ( clapping etc) but when Joy and you stopped then we were all expectant of more. Like having brownies with a glass of milk. If the milk is not there then one can't eat the brownie!! I loved it and I felt like I could have stayed and done more... but alas, time is always our enemy!

Thanks, Sylvie!

Rebekkah, age 5 said, "That was the best party ever!"

The girls chose to paint a unicorn and a piggy bank.

A dog dish is also fun!

And, it's a great night out with the kids!

Check back in the next week to find out more about our next Art Spa event. We hope to combine many different art forms: painting, music, writing, acting, and more. If you have any ideas or requests, contact us at primoartspa@gmail.com!
